SHATTERED

SHATTERED

he rails exhaustedly
against
the unrelenting night –

shattered
by restlessness
he groans

a welcome
to a new daybreak
prays that it’s not

an uninvited dream –
still rails against
the unrelenting night

then collapses
into sleep
